Dr. Simmy King is an accomplished nursing leader serving as the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development at Children’s National Hospital, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. King is recognized for her expertise in advancing digital transformation, workforce education, and wellness strategies, all aimed at improving clinical and workforce outcomes and integrating technology into nursing practice.
Under Dr. King’s visionary leadership, Children’s National became the first organization in Washington, D.C., to be recognized as an ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program with distinction in 2019. In 2025, the hospital further distinguished itself by achieving the ANCC Well-being Excellence credential, becoming one of only six organizations worldwide and the first pediatric hospital to receive this honor.
Beyond her role at Children’s National, Dr. King’s influence extends to professional and civic organizations. She has served as Treasurer and appointed member of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Board of Directors, At-Large Member of the Virginia Organization for Nursing Leadership (VONL) Board, and Commissioner for the City of Fairfax Commission for Women, where she advised on policies affecting women and girls. Currently, she is a Commissioner on the ANCC Commission on Magnet.
Dr. King’s contributions have been recognized with several honors, including being named a Distinguished Alumna by The George Washington University School of Nursing in 2020, and her induction into the American Academy of Nursing in 2022. As a member of the Academy, she participates in Expert Panels and the AI Task Force and was elected to the Academy’s Nominations Committee in 2024.
